THE CIRCUMSTANCES
Soon after giving birth to her second child, Jeannie K. needed wrist surgery. A nerve was severed, leaving her unable to work, and her disability approval was delayed. With a mortgage reliant on two incomes and a family of five to support, including her mother, her husband’s paycheck was stretched thin. “There came a point where it was a choice between putting food on the table or gas in the car to get to work,” she explains.
THE SHIFT
Jeannie and her husband had been in steady communication with the bank while Jeannie’s disability payments were still pending. Jeannie eventually won her disability case, however the bank proceeded with the foreclosure and officially foreclosed on August 20, 2019.
THE RESULT
Jeannie persevered. She connected with housing advocacy group Springfield No One Leaves and followed their advice to pay off debts, save as much money as possible and stay focused. The organization then put her in contact with BlueHub SUN. “BlueHub saw that I could afford the house and said, ‘This is why we exist — to help people like you,’” recalls Jeannie. SUN purchased the home from the foreclosing lender and sold it back to Jeannie when no other lender would, keeping Jeannie and her family safely in their home.
